Eating a food plan high in sodium has been linked to an increased risk of eczema.

A food plan high in sodium is related to an increased risk of many health problems equivalent to hypertension, kidney disease, heart attack, stroke, etc. and a study published online on June 5, 2024 JAMA Dermatology suggests that eating a food plan high in sodium can also be linked to an increased risk of eczema – a standard variety of atopic dermatitis characterised by dry, itchy skin and rashes. The researchers reviewed the health information of greater than 215,000 people (ages 37 to 73) who each submitted a urine sample. When the scientists analyzed the sodium levels within the urine samples — a measure of how much sodium was consumed within the previous 24 hours — they found that the typical was 3 grams. On average, each additional gram of sodium excreted was related to an 11 percent increase in the chances of developing eczema, a 16 percent increase in the chances of an exacerbation, and an 11 percent increase in the chances of a severe condition. While the study found an association, it doesn’t prove that sodium intake causes eczema. However, many convincing studies show that prime sodium intake is linked to other health problems, and in case you're consuming greater than the national advice of two,300 milligrams (mg) of sodium per day, reduce it. It won't hurt to achieve this. – About 2.3 grams.
