There is little question that regular exercise is important for good health. That fact alone is motivation enough for some. For others, setting meaningful personal goals—whether it's ending a 10K run or getting back into the jeans you're keen on—and valuing what motivates you may help launch a successful exercise program.
Motivation takes many forms, so find the carrot (or stick) that works for you. You will want to prepare to tackle recent activities, comparable to climbing a towering rock wall, wading through water during a triathlon, or running 26.2 miles in a marathon. Maybe you only hope to feel fit and good about your body. Maybe a friendly bet with a spouse or friend — the loser pays for kayaking lessons — or a desire to carry up your end of the discount with a brand new exercise partner will do the trick.
Hiring a private trainer or tapping a friend for a workout or walk may be motivating. Friends who can cheer you on and hold you accountable to aid you plan. And most of us enjoy a reward, so list (ideally non-food) rewards for meeting weekly or each day goals. One reward is just seeing progress, so consider tracking your progress repeatedly. Whether you are running more miles, lifting heavy weights, getting out of breath while climbing the steps, or looking for a smaller belt, write it down or use one in every of the numerous fitness apps available in your phone, tablet, or computer.
Setting exercise goals can turn vain hopes into reality — especially if you've gotten some assist in place.
