July 26, 2023 – The number of individuals hospitalized with COVID-19 rose 10% within the United States, the biggest increase since December, in line with the CDC.
During the week of July 15, 7,109 patients with COVID-19 were hospitalized nationwide, in line with the CDC. The previous week, the number was 6,444.
Another essential number has also increased: the proportion of individuals visiting the emergency room with COVID-19. CBS News According to the Department of Health, through July 21, a median of 0.73% of emergency department visits previously week were attributable to COVID-19, in comparison with 0.49% through June 21.
The country has seen a decline in COVID-19 indicators since last winter.
“COVID-19 rates in the United States are still near historic lows after 7 months of steady decline,” CDC spokeswoman Kathleen Conley said in an announcement. “Early indicators of COVID-19 activity (emergency department visits, positive test results, and sewage levels) preceded an increase in hospitalizations last week.”
She said hospitalizations in most parts of the country are low and haven't yet reached the purpose where the CDC recommends additional precautions to slow the spread of the virus.
This time last 12 months, things were different. CBS News said, “In July 2022, a peak was reached with more than 44,000 weekly hospitalizations and 5% of emergency room visits due to COVID-19, during a summer surge that overwhelmed many hospitals.”
Conley identified that the country has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases over the past three summers, so the present increases should not surprising.
So far this 12 months, no single variant dominates infections.
